Perry McKay is an illustrator because they love to communicate. Illustration gives them the power to communicate in a way that transcends language. Perry spends much of their time trying to convey complex, nuanced, and controversial concepts into a single, instantly readable image. As a libra, they try to view issues from both sides before developing an opinion and imposing their judgement. Perry channels that same thoughtful contemplation into every piece they create.
Perry's goal with their artwork is to resonate with people in a way a photograph cannot. Perry's naturalistic drawing approach in tandem with their conceptual content adds layers of depth to their work to create a striking image. Though Perry is skilled in a variety of traditional media, they primarily work digitally to maximize efficiency. They use full scale value, captivating color, and texture to add a gritty and compelling feel to their images.
Perry's work sheds light on topics that are often considered “too taboo” for everyday conversation, such as war, corruption, and politics. By creating powerful images surrounding these subjects, they aim to start necessary conversations that lead to social progress. Perry's education at the Savannah College of Art and Design has only strengthened their hunger to make impact on the world around them. In the few hours that Perry is not engulfed in a fury of creative passion, they can be found cuddled up with their partner and their silly puppy, watching a good show.
